Ince, in any case

Our goal is to recruit and bring together the best people across the globe, to provide quality services and support for our clients' most complex disputes, transactions and projects.

As a global law firm, we can offer our trainees many fantastic opportunities such as working on cross-jurisdictional cases and gaining experience in a multicultural setting.

We encourage all of our trainees to get involved in other initiatives at the firm such as D&I events, social events and CSR projects including the immigration law clinic.

The window for training contract applications runs from October to January each year. Please check this page in October for details on how to apply.

Training contracts

London – 2024/2025

From the moment you step through the door, you’ll be given real responsibility for real cases. Although your work will be supervised by partners, you’ll also enjoy a high level of autonomy. You’ll need to be proactive to get the most out of your time on your training contract, building relationships with partners to support them in cases.

Occasionally we’re also able to offer our trainees the opportunity to work in one of our overseas offices or to go on secondment to one of our clients. Secondment opportunities vary but recently we’ve had trainees go on secondment to our Gibraltar, Dubai and Piraeus offices, and to clients across our practice groups including P&I clubs, energy contractors, and Lloyd's syndicates.

We consider work/life balance to be very important and promote a healthy balance at all levels.

Bristol and Cardiff

In our Bristol and Cardiff offices, we have small trainee intakes meaning you will be given high levels of support, training and development.

Our Bristol position gives opportunities to work within the commercial team which includes employment, dispute resolution and corporate/commercial and also marine insurance, private client and family. The position within the Cardiff office will predominately be focused on working in property, family and dispute resolution.

As these offices have small trainee intakes, there is a flexible approach to being allocated to one department and, as a trainee, you would support multiple Partners to enable you to gain a broad understanding of the firm. We have an extensive trainee training programme which has been set up from a London office which you would be involved in to enable you to develop your skills and understand more about the offerings from all offices.

International trainee positions

Many of our international offices take on trainees each year. This is a mixture of qualifying locally as well as qualifying to practice as an England and Wales-qualified solicitor. Our international offices advise on a wide range of matters and tend to practice across different areas.

We currently do not have any vacancies  - however, please email your CV to graduaterecruitment@incegd.com and we will forward it to the relevant people.

What we look for

Whilst our trainees come from diverse backgrounds and each have something different to offer, there are some key attributes and skills we look for in all trainees at Ince.

Passion

As a niche law firm it is important that trainees who join us have a genuine interest in the areas we work in. A number of our trainees have had previous careers or exposure to these areas, which can be beneficial when starting a career here at Ince. Whilst previous experience in our sectors is not required, we do expect all applicants to be able to demonstrate that they have researched the firm in depth and are able to demonstrate a genuine interest in working in our specialist areas. With a large proportion of our Partners having trained with us, we hope our trainees will have an equally long and successful career with us- therefore it is critical that our areas align with your own passions and interests.

Organisation

With Ince’s flexible training contract it is important that trainees who join us are pro-active and are able to balance different priorities effectively. This is a key skill that will be important throughout your whole career at Ince. It is definitely something we look to assess during the selection process, so being able to speak about how you organise your time and stay on top of your various commitments is very important.

Practicality

We look for trainees that are practical and are able to display a good degree of solution-based outcomes. Our clients expect practical solutions that are tailored to their unique circumstances, so being able to look at legal issues from a commercial and practical perspective is key.

Commercial awareness

This is an essential skill for any solicitor but, it is not one that is quickly achieved. You must keep up to date with current events, upcoming changes in legislation and generally have a high level of market awareness.
